Ashes was originally released as “Deathly” (2015) by Director and Writer Mike Williamson. It starred Alan Ruck (as Richard), Kathleen Wilhoite (Dianne), Mickey Keating (Son), and Christina Elizabeth Smith (Daughter).
Deathly was nominated for Best Short Film in the 2016 International Fantasy Film Awards.
Renamed, “Ashes,” for educational licenses, this version of the film was Edited by myself as the final project in The Dramatic Editing 2.0 Coaching Program taught by Josh Beal, ACE (NCIS: Tony & Ziva, Fleishman Is in Trouble, House of Cards, and many more) as part The Go-To Editor editing program by Sven Pape, ACE.

Following his wife’s death in a house fire, Richard returns home on the night of her funeral to find that he is not alone. The narrative takes the real-world phenomenon of a surviving spouse dying of a “broken heart” shortly after their partner and twists it into a supernatural horror story. The short reveals that the wife’s ghost has returned to exact a violent, Tales from the Crypt-style revenge for her murder.
As my final class project in The Dramatic Editing 2.0 Coaching Program, the assignment was to edit the film in its entirety. I had access to all of the raw footage shot during production of the film in addition to the audio and original score. Tasks included shot selection, editing, sound design and effects, visual effects, and color grading.
